The Mpatado/Adietem Primary School in the Kwesimintsim Constituency of the Western Region has been completed and handed over to the Ghana Education Service (GES), 13 years after construction began.
The project was completed with funding from the Member of Parliament for Kwesimintsim, Lawyer Philip Fiifi Buckman, through his share of the MP’s Common Fund.
The newly completed school is expected to provide pupils in Mpatado and surrounding communities with a more conducive environment for teaching and learning, while also easing pressure on existing educational facilities.
Speaking at a brief handover ceremony, the MP said completing the project was part of his commitment to improving educational infrastructure and promoting quality education in the constituency.
He said the investment in the school was intended to ensure that children in the community have access to an appropriate learning environment.
The Municipal Chief Executive for Effia-Kwesimintsim, Abdul Majeed-Dokrugu, who attended the ceremony, commended the MP for using his Common Fund allocation to complete the long-delayed project.
According to him, the intervention has saved the Assembly from a significant financial burden and will allow it to channel resources into other development projects across the municipality.
“The completion of this project has taken a huge financial burden off the Assembly. This gives us the opportunity to focus our resources on other projects within the municipality,” Mr Dokrugu said.
He also assured the community that steps would be taken to promote proper maintenance of the facility.
Mr Dokrugu expressed optimism that the Mpatado/Adietem Primary School would soon develop into a model school within the Kwesimintsim Constituency.
The Chief of Mpatado, Nana Godzitsiah VII, expressed gratitude to the MP and the MCE for their roles in ensuring the completion of the project, which had remained unfinished for more than a decade.
He, however, appealed to residents to patronise the newly completed school rather than sending their children to schools in neighbouring communities.
“The school has been built for the people of Mpatado and Adietem. We are appealing to parents to bring their children here and support the development of the school,” Nana Godzitsiah VII said.
The handover brings to an end years of delays surrounding the project and paves the way for the Ghana Education Service to fully utilise the facility for basic education in the community.
