Member of Parliament for the Kwesimintsim Constituency, Lawyer Philip Fiifi Buckman, has supported 250 BECE graduates in the constituency with educational materials and financial assistance ahead of their transition to Senior High School (SHS).
The initiative, carried out on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, forms part of the MP’s Educational Support Programme, designed to ease the financial pressure on parents and guardians while ensuring that deserving students are able to continue their education without unnecessary setbacks.
The beneficiaries received essential items including exercise books, trunks and student mattresses. Selected students facing particularly difficult circumstances, including orphans and those with special needs, were also provided with cash support to meet other educational expenses.
Speaking on the initiative, Lawyer Buckman said the selection process was deliberately structured to benefit students from public schools as well as those from vulnerable backgrounds.
According to him, some of the beneficiaries were among the best-performing students from public schools, with varying numbers selected from different schools based on their academic performance and needs.
He explained that the cash component was specifically reserved for students experiencing more challenging circumstances.
“Those who are going to benefit from cash from me are the orphans and those with very, very special needs. They may not necessarily be among the best students in the school, but they are going to school and they are very good students. So, for them, I give cash support to help them,” he said.
Lawyer Buckman stressed that the intervention forms part of a continuing commitment to education in the Kwesimintsim Constituency and is not a one-time exercise.
He pledged to sustain and expand the programme to reach more students, particularly brilliant but needy young people who may otherwise struggle to remain in school due to financial constraints.
The initiative is expected to provide significant relief to families preparing their children for SHS, especially as the cost of school requirements continues to place pressure on household budgets.
Lawyer Buckman said his broader objective is to ensure that no deserving student in Kwesimintsim is denied the opportunity to pursue education simply because of a lack of basic learning materials or financial support.
