Two people have died after reportedly falling ill while working inside a mining pit at Juaboso in the Juaboso District of the Western North Region.
The incident occurred after the two men entered the underground pit around midday on Saturday, September 26, 2026, reportedly to engage in mining activities.
Preliminary information suggests the men may have been affected by excessive heat and poor ventilation while underground.
Their failure to return from the pit by Sunday morning, September 27, reportedly prompted a friend to enter the site to check on them.
The friend is said to have found the two men in a weakened condition and raised the alarm, leading residents and other community members to organise a rescue operation.
The victims were subsequently retrieved from the pit and rushed to the Juaboso Government Hospital for medical attention.
However, medical personnel at the facility pronounced both men dead.
One of the deceased has been identified as Richard Oduro, popularly known as “Churches,” a resident of Juaboso Township.
The identity of the second victim, who is reportedly from outside the community, remains unknown.
Authorities are yet to officially establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and the exact cause of the two deaths.
Further investigations are expected to determine what led to the deaths and whether safety measures at the mining site were adequate.
