NSMQ 2025: Mfantsipim School Defends Crown, Beats AUGUSCO and OWASS to Claim Back-to-Back Victory

Mfantsipim School has once again proven its dominance in academic excellence after defending its crown to win the 2025 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ). The victory marks back-to-back triumphs for the Cape Coast-based school and their fourth national title, earning them a celebrated place in NSMQ history.

The grand finale, held at the University of Cape Coast’s NEC Auditorium, was nothing short of spectacular — a true battle of the giants featuring three powerhouses of Ghanaian education: Mfantsipim School, St. Augustine’s College (AUGUSCO), and Opoku Ware School (OWASS).

From the first round, the energy in the auditorium was electric. Mfantsipim took an early lead with 20 points, while AUGUSCO and OWASS followed closely with 17 points each. The competition was tight, with every correct answer met by thunderous applause from supporters waving flags and chanting school anthems.

In the second round, AUGUSCO surged ahead, displaying exceptional speed and teamwork to top the leaderboard with 27 points, as Mfantsipim held 24 points and OWASS stayed on 17.

But true to their motto, Dwen Hwe Kan (“Think and Look Ahead”), the Botwe Boys staged a strong comeback. During the Problem of the Day, they executed precise calculations and confident reasoning, scoring 30 points — narrowly edging out AUGUSCO’s 29, while OWASS managed 19.

By round four, Mfantsipim had regained control with 46 points, as AUGUSCO followed with 42, and OWASS trailed with 29.

As the final round began, the tension in the hall was palpable. Every question mattered, and each buzzer press drew gasps and cheers. In the end, Mfantsipim’s consistency and composure paid off — they sealed their victory with 56 points, leaving AUGUSCO at 42 points and OWASS at 29.

With this victory, Mfantsipim School not only defended their title but also wrote a new chapter in NSMQ history — standing tall with four national trophies and a legacy that continues to inspire academic greatness across Ghana.
