7-year-old boy drowns in manhole at Abuom Redtop

A heartbreaking tragedy occurred in the Abuom Redtop area near West Hills Mall on Monday, October 27, when a 7-year-old boy drowned after falling into a water-filled manhole.

According to a statement by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), rescue teams rushed to the scene immediately after receiving distress calls. Sadly, despite their swift response, the young boy was pronounced dead at the scene.

The exact circumstances surrounding how the child fell into the manhole remain unclear. However, residents described the incident as deeply distressing and are calling on local authorities to cover open drains and manholes to prevent similar accidents in the future.

Many community members expressed frustration over what they say is “a preventable tragedy,” urging swift action to ensure public safety — especially for children in the area.
