Mali’s national team head coach, Tom Saintfiet, has praised Ghanaian supporters for creating what he described as a “fantastic atmosphere” during their clash with the Black Stars.
Ghana secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Mali in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier at the Accra Sports Stadium, strengthening their lead in Group I as they push for a place at next year’s tournament.
The 40,000-capacity stadium was partially closed, with about 14,000 seats unavailable due to ongoing renovations. Still, the thousands of fans who turned up ensured a loud and spirited atmosphere throughout the match — something that impressed the Malian coach.
“Congratulations to Ghana on the victory. It was a fantastic atmosphere in the stadium. Ghana didn’t play with 11 players but with 12 or even 13, and that helps the team,” Saintfiet said after the match.
The Black Stars will next face Central African Republic on October 8 and Comoros on October 11 to complete their qualification campaign.
