Hours Before His Death, Dr Omane Boamah Outlined Akwatia By-Election Strategy – Tanko-Computer

Deputy Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Rashid Tanko-Computer, has disclosed that the late Defence Minister, Dr Omane Boamah, spent the morning of the tragic helicopter crash mapping out campaign strategies for the upcoming Akwatia by-election.

Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express, Tanko-Computer revealed that their final meeting took place virtually around 7 a.m. on the day of the incident.

“He preferred virtual meetings to save time. Instead of bringing everyone together physically, he would say, ‘Let’s use the social media platforms for our discussions,’” he recalled.

Tanko-Computer, who also serves as Acting CEO of the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC), described Dr Boamah as a meticulous strategist whose planning had been central to the NDC’s electoral successes.

“He was a master planner. He would put pen to paper, map out the strategy, assign tasks, and then review our work. We always aimed to bring him an A+,” he said.

According to him, Dr Boamah gave detailed directives for the Akwatia by-election during that morning’s meeting, with the team expected to report back to him later in the day. However, none of them knew he was travelling.

Dr Omane Boamah was among eight people who lost their lives in Wednesday’s military helicopter crash in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region.

President John Mahama has since announced the formation of a high-level Investigative Board of Inquiry to determine the cause of the tragedy.
