Samini Applauds Mahama and Judiciary for Promoting Accountability in Ghana

Award-winning Ghanaian dancehall icon Samini has expressed optimism about Ghana’s current leadership, commending President John Dramani Mahama and the judiciary for their recent actions promoting transparency and justice.

Appearing on the premiere episode of PrimeTime with George Quaye on Joy Prime, Samini noted that the visible push for accountability in public office has made him “a happy Ghanaian.”

“What we are seeing now—people being held accountable—makes me proud. I like the fact that people are being brought to book and justice is being served. That’s what I stand for,” Samini said.

In a political environment often defined by party allegiance, Samini clarified that his views stem from principle, not partisanship.

“I won’t mince words just to protect a favorite. If you’re in public office, you have a duty to serve Ghana. If you abuse that trust, you should face consequences. That’s the only way we grow as a nation.”

The judicial system in Ghana has been under public scrutiny in recent years, especially regarding the prosecution of corruption cases and efforts to reinforce rule of law. Samini’s remarks come at a time when the current administration is receiving praise from some quarters for reviving dormant investigations and reinforcing institutions of accountability.

When host George Quaye asked whether he believes President Mahama and the current National Democratic Congress (NDC) government are on the right track, Samini responded affirmatively:

“So far, I think President Mahama and the judicial system are doing a good job. At least in the area of accountability, I see progress. It’s still early to judge everything else.”

Though Samini is widely known for hits like “Linda” and his advocacy for youth empowerment, he rarely makes public political statements. His latest remarks, however, indicate a growing confidence in speaking out on governance and national development.

He also hinted at openness to emerging political movements in Ghana, stating:

“If The New Force or any party presents compelling policies that prove they’re serious about development and leadership, I’d support them.”

Samini concluded with a call for continuous civic vigilance:

“Let’s not normalize impunity. Calling out wrongdoing is not division—it’s patriotism. That’s how we build a better Ghana.”
