One week after the passing of Charles Kwadwo Fosu, known as Daddy Lumba, Ghana continues to mourn the loss of a highlife legend who died on July 26, 2025, at age 60 after a brief illness at The Bank Hospital in Accra. His family’s lawyer, Fati Ali Yallah, confirmed the news, expressing the family’s profound shock and grief, as reported by Africanews.

Former President Nana Akufo-Addo paid tribute on social media, calling Daddy Lumba a national treasure whose music shaped his political campaigns for the New Patriotic Party. “His hit-making songs will forever be etched in the annals of political campaign,” he wrote. President John Dramani Mahama also honored the icon, stating, “Lumba’s unmatched musical genius provided the soundtrack to our lives,” in a heartfelt post on X.

Daddy Lumba’s death led to the cancellation of his highly anticipated USA and Canada tour, a historic return after 25 years, as announced by TM Entertainmentz with “heavy hearts and deep sorrow.” The outpouring of tributes from artists like Sarkodie, M.anifest, and Sista Afia highlights his influence across generations.

With over 33 albums and 200 songs, Daddy Lumba blended traditional highlife with modern sounds, creating timeless hits like “Aben Wo Ha” and “Yentie Obiaa.” His music, covering love, grief, and politics, resonated with millions, earning comparisons to global icons like Michael Jackson. His final performance was a Valentine’s Day concert on February 15, 2025, alongside Ghana’s top musicians.
