Manhyia Chief Executioner Issues Strict Curfew Ahead of Asantehemaa’s Final Burial Rites

In Kumasi, preparations for the burial of the late Asantehemaa, Nana Ama Konadu (Nana Konadu Yiadom III), have intensified as the Manhyia Palace’s chief executioner, the Manhyia Brafoo, delivers a stern warning to residents.

During the funeral procession on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, he declared a mandatory curfew for Thursday, September 18, the day of the burial. The Brafoo warned that anyone who defies the order will face the consequences. Speaking in Twi, he stressed:

> “We are not joking. We’re not bragging. It is an order. On Thursday, stay indoors. If you say you are brave, step out and let us see.”

The late Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, was the 14th Queen Mother of Asanteman and the biological sister of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. She ascended the stool in 2017 after the passing of her mother, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II.

Nana Konadu Yiadom III was revered as the second most powerful figure in Asanteman, known for her wisdom, loyalty, and devotion to tradition. Her four-day funeral rites, which began on Monday, September 15, will conclude with her burial on Thursday, September 18, 2025.
