Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has pledged that a future NPP government will fully complete the Agenda 111 hospital projects, describing the initiative as one of the most transformative healthcare programmes in Ghana’s history.
The Agenda 111 programme, launched under the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration, was designed to deliver modern 100-bed district hospitals in areas without such facilities, alongside accommodation for health workers. It also included the construction of regional hospitals in the six newly created regions, rehabilitation of the Effia Nkwanta Hospital in the Western Region, and two new psychiatric hospitals in Kumasi and Tamale.
Addressing NPP constituency executives and former party officials in the Greater Accra Region at the start of a three-day engagement, Dr. Bawumia expressed concern that many of the projects, though at advanced stages by the end of 2024, have stalled under the current government.
“When we were in government, we introduced policies to improve the lives of every Ghanaian—such as the medical drone delivery service, expansion of the National Ambulance Service, and the Agenda 111 hospitals. Sadly, the new government seems to have abandoned this critical investment in healthcare. Nine months into their tenure, there is no sign of progress,” he said.
Dr. Bawumia stressed that completing Agenda 111 remains a top priority for the NPP should they return to power.
“If the current government does not complete them, the next NPP government will. This investment will save lives, create jobs, and ensure better healthcare access across Ghana,” he assured.
