NPP lost Akwatia seat due to poor campaign – Inusah Fuseini

Former Tamale Central MP, Inusah Fuseini, says the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) defeat in the Akwatia by-election was mainly due to a weak and disorganized campaign.

Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile on Saturday, September 6, Mr. Fuseini explained that the NPP failed to present a clear and consistent campaign message, which made it easier for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to secure victory.

“I was not surprised at all. I knew there would be a challenge, but many things worked in our favour. The NPP is in disarray — that is their default status,” he said.

He further noted that the ruling party lacked direction in their campaign strategy.
“They had no campaign. Tell me their message. What did they say? They couldn’t decide — one message was being told by three different people,” he added.

The NDC’s candidate, Bernard Baidoo, won the seat with 18,199 votes (about 54%), defeating the NPP’s Solomon Kwame Asumadu, who polled 15,235. Owusu Patrick of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) managed only 82 votes.

This victory gives the NDC a significant boost, as Akwatia is considered a key swing seat.
