President John Dramani Mahama has announced that a stringent weight restriction policy will be implemented in 2026 to protect road investments and ensure the longevity of new infrastructure.
Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony for the dualization of the 73.6-kilometer Takoradi-Cape Coast road, the President also stated that the Western Region is a key beneficiary of the government’s “Big Push” infrastructure initiative.
According to World Bank reports, Ghana faces a significant infrastructure funding deficit of $1.5 billion annually.
To address this, the current administration has launched a five-year program dubbed the “Big Push” initiative.
This program involves a $2 billion annual investment designed to close the infrastructure gap, improve productivity, and expand the country’s economy.
Although the Western Region is a major economic contributor, it suffers from predominantly deplorable road conditions.
