Until recently, Ibrahim Anyass was known in Amasaman, Accra, as a passionate youth football coach — a man dedicated to helping young boys chase their dreams at the Siano Football Academy.
Today, he stands accused of destroying those very dreams. The coach, believed to be in his late thirties, is now at the centre of one of Ghana’s most disturbing football scandals, following the death of 16-year-old Ransford Owusu Ansah in March 2025 — a tragedy that has sparked national outrage and renewed calls for accountability in youth sports.
A Dream Turned Nightmare
The Siano Football Academy, a modest community-based team, attracted dozens of children from across Accra, many with hopes of playing professionally one day. For parents, the academy represented opportunity — a stepping stone toward a brighter future through football.
However, chilling allegations have since emerged that Anyass allegedly sexually abused multiple boys under his supervision, including Ransford. According to reports, the teenager endured years of abuse before his untimely death earlier this year.
Videos Raise Questions
Though Anyass maintained a low public profile, several videos now circulating online show him interacting with the boys — at training sessions, and disturbingly, in indoor settings where some appear to be asleep. Once seen as harmless snapshots of mentorship, these clips have now taken on a grim new context as investigators dig deeper into what really happened behind closed doors at the academy.
Public Outcry and Police Action
The scandal has triggered widespread anger across Ghana, with many demanding #JusticeForRansford. The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has since summoned Anyass to respond to the allegations as part of an ongoing investigation into the alleged abuse and the boy’s death.
Despite the growing evidence and public attention, Anyass has not issued a formal statement. He reportedly promised, during a phone call on a live TV programme, to “tell his side of the story” — a promise he never fulfilled.
