Kofi Darko, a 39-year-old assistant driver on a Yutong bus with the registration number AP 8050-22, sadly lost his life on Sunday, January 4, 2026. He was working on the back wheels of the bus when it accidentally crushed him.
In an exclusive interview with Almighty FM News, the bus driver, William Opoku Asare, said he did not know Kofi was trying to fix the bus. Just one day before, a mechanic had come to fix the same problem that Kofi was trying to solve by himself.
William shared that he had worked with Kofi for twelve years. He knew Kofi liked to work with machines and often helped with repairs. It is possible that Kofi thought he could handle the issue since he had seen a mechanic working on it recently.
The Ghana National Fire Service was called to the scene, but unfortunately, Kofi had already passed away by the time they got there. The police also came to look into what happened.
Kofi’s body has been taken to the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital morgue. William mentioned that Kofi’s family has been told about the sad news, but he is worried because the police have not yet allowed the family to take Kofi’s body for burial.
