The campaign team of Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, a flagbearer aspirant in the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has described his leadership bid as a divinely inspired mission to restore purpose and integrity within the party and Ghana’s political space.

Speaking on The Pulse on JoyNews on Friday, October 10, Kwasi Kwarteng, spokesperson for the Ken Agyapong campaign, said the team believes Mr. Agyapong’s candidacy goes beyond politics, representing a spiritual calling for national renewal.

“We are not fixated on numbers. We firmly believe that Ken’s candidature is divine — a move by God to restore order and righteousness in leadership,” Mr. Kwarteng stated.

Drawing a biblical analogy, he compared the situation to the story of King David, suggesting that God is bringing Kennedy Agyapong forward as a replacement for a “rejected Saul.”

“When the Israelites demanded a king, God gave them Saul. But when conditions worsened, God replaced him with David. Likewise, Saul has been rejected, and a new David — Honourable Kennedy Agyapong — is being introduced by God,” he explained.

Mr. Kwarteng further noted that while the campaign team is encouraged by Agyapong’s ballot position, their focus remains on his message of transformation and moral leadership.

“His visibility on the ballot is a plus, but beyond numbers, our strength lies in the divine purpose driving his message,” he added.

Kennedy Agyapong is one of five aspirants contesting for the NPP flagbearer position ahead of the party’s presidential primaries scheduled for January 31, 2026.

General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Kodua Frimpong, has reminded Kennedy Agyapong’s campaign team that disciplinary measures within the party can only be pursued through the proper procedures outlined in the constitution.

His clarification follows demands from Agyapong’s team for immediate sanctions against Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Wontumi), and Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe (Abronye DC). The campaign alleged that the two leaders made comments suggesting the party’s electoral roll was being manipulated ahead of the January 2026 presidential primaries.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Mr. Kodua disclosed that he had not received any official petition on the matter and only learned of the concerns through social media.

“Personally, no one has submitted any complaint to me. I only saw it on social media, just like everyone else,” he said.

While acknowledging the concerns expressed by Agyapong’s spokesperson, Kwasi Kwarteng, the NPP General Secretary stressed that party rules must guide any disciplinary action.

“Our party is not one where you can just wake up and suspend someone. Article 4 of our constitution clearly spells out discipline and grievance procedures,” he explained.

Mr. Kodua emphasised that the first step in resolving internal disputes is the lodging of a formal complaint, after which the party’s disciplinary mechanisms can be activated.

“If you believe someone has breached party rules, you must first file a complaint. My question to Kwasi Kwarteng is: has anyone formally petitioned against Wontumi or Abronye? Until that is done, I have no legal basis to act,” he stated.

He concluded by urging patience and respect for due process.

“If a petition comes before me and I fail to act, then you can hold me accountable. But until then, my hands are tied by the very laws we all agreed to uphold,” he said.
