Speaking on Channel One News, Green expressed no shock at the official outcome, suggesting the rerun was a deliberate attempt to deny the NPP victory.

“We are not surprised that this was going to happen because we’ve been robbed,” Green stated. “We won, but the EC and the sitting government did everything they could to manipulate this election. Is this the kind of democracy we want to practice in Ghana?”

Green highlighted that following the December 7, 2024 general election, the NPP had already compiled results from all but three polling stations. Instead of completing collation as instructed by a High Court ruling, the EC opted for a fresh election in 19 polling stations—without prior notice or party consent.

“We have the pink sheets for all 19 polling stations, and we won in about 15 of them in 2024,” he asserted. “So what they wanted to do was skew us out and manipulate the electoral process. But we believe in the rule of law, so we’re calm and we accept it in good faith.”

NDC’s Historic Win

The rerun concluded with Ewurabena Aubynn of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) emerging victorious, marking only the second time since 1992 that the party has secured this historically NPP stronghold.

The rerun was prompted by irregularities in the December 7 election, such as missing or unsigned pink sheets. A High Court ruling in January 2025 instructed the EC to finalize collation, but unresolved issues led the EC to call a rerun.

Initially, the NPP boycotted the rerun, denouncing the EC’s decision as rebellious. Despite this, the NPP candidate Nana Akua Afriyie entered the rerun, backed by grassroots and party officials.

Poll day was marred by incidents of violence, including reported assaults against Nana Akua Afriyie and former Fisheries Minister Hawa Koomson. The Ghana Police Service later interdicted one officer captured attacking a journalist at a polling station.

When counting concluded, Ewurabena Aubynn secured 34,090 votes, narrowly defeating Akua Afriyie, who polled 33,881. The result resolved nearly eight months of uncertainty and underlined the evolving political landscape in Greater Accra.
