The National Leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has reaffirmed its dedication to transparent and credible democratic processes, urging the public to disregard recent comments made by two of its Regional Chairmen.

In a statement signed by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, the Party clarified that remarks by Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako and Bono Regional Chairman Kwame Baffoe (Abronye DC) do not reflect the principles, values, or practices of the NPP.

“No individual, regardless of rank or position, has the authority to manipulate or control the compilation of polling station albums,” the statement stressed. The leadership assured stakeholders that the process will follow clear, transparent, and established procedures.

To reinforce this, the National Secretariat will in due course release guidelines and protocols designed to guarantee integrity, credibility, and fairness at every stage of the process.

Addressing concerns raised by Antwi Boasiako over the timing of the Party’s presidential primaries, scheduled for 31st January 2026, the NPP dismissed claims that the date was set to benefit a particular aspirant.

“The assertion is unfounded. The National Council deliberated extensively before arriving at the decision in the supreme and strategic interest of the Party. No individual has the influence to manipulate this process,” the statement emphasized.

According to the leadership, the decision to hold an early congress is purely strategic, aimed at giving the Party ample time to reorganize, reposition, and prepare effectively to recapture power in the 2028 elections.

Reiterating its stance, the Party noted: “The NPP remains resolutely committed to transparency, fairness, and internal democracy. Every stage of our internal electoral processes—from polling stations to national congress—will be conducted with the highest standards of integrity and credibility.”

Cocoa Farmers Frustrated with Politicization

Cocoa farmers in Ghana’s Assin Fosu District are urging the government to keep politics out of the cocoa sector, arguing that partisan interference is hindering fair pricing and industry stability. Award-winning farmer Samuel Tobi, with 36 acres across three farms including Otabil Nkwanta, highlighted how new governments swap experienced officials for political allies, disrupting cocoa management at COCOBOD.

Recent Price Hike Falls Short

The government’s recent producer price increase is welcomed but falls short of the promised 70% of Free-On-Board value, per Ghana News Agency. Tobi noted rising costs for labor and foodstuffs erode profits, stressing the need for Ghana cocoa fair prices that reflect farmers’ efforts.

Hand Pollination and Youth Involvement

To boost yields, farmers like Tobi emphasize hand pollination, which can double production but is challenging for aging growers—over 50 years old, with 60% men and 40% women. Cocoa Management System coordinator Ayiku Abdul Raman Tetteh explained training young pollinators, who work for negotiable fees, helps maintain productivity despite eyesight issues.

GIZ Support and Sector Sustainability

The German agency GIZ aids Ghana’s cocoa sector through training, sustainability promotion, and value chain improvements, partnering with COCOBOD to make production profitable. Tobi called for protecting cocoa from politics to ensure fair prices and stability.

The Ghana cocoa fair prices push highlights the need for non-partisan management. Stay tuned for more updates on cocoa sector reforms!
