The projects follow months of advocacy by the Member of Parliament for the constituency, Dr. Grace Ayensu-Danquah, who has been engaging relevant government agencies to prioritize key road networks within the constituency.

The construction works will be undertaken by Justmoh Construction Limited, owned by contractor Justice Amoh, as part of efforts to upgrade critical roads and improve mobility across communities.

According to the Department of Urban Roads, the projects earmarked for construction include the dualization of the Regional Office Roundabout to Sekondi College Junction (Secko Junction), the Ketan to Kojokrom road through the Ahenkofie Bypass, the Kojokrom Fitting Junction to Enoe road, and the Kansawrodo to Mampong road.

Work has already commenced on the Mpintsin to Esiem road, which is being executed by the Department of Feeder Roads to improve access to communities within the area.

In addition, the government’s “Big Push” dualization project is expected to further transform road infrastructure in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis. The project, which will include two overpasses, will run from Secko Junction through Mpintsin, Kojokrom, Nkroful, and Fijai to Takoradi, with the goal of improving connectivity and reducing traffic congestion.

The progress of these projects has been linked to the infrastructure development agenda of President John Dramani Mahama, which continues to focus on expanding and improving road networks across the country.

Residents and stakeholders in the Essikado-Ketan Constituency have welcomed the development and commended Dr. Grace Ayensu-Danquah for her efforts in championing improved road infrastructure for the area.

At a ceremony to break the grounds in Sawla in the Savannah Region on November 5, President Mahama indicated that the big push agenda is achieving its intended purpose.

“We are here to cut sod to cover three regions, Bono East, Savannah, and Upper West regions.Today’s sod cutting covers the reconstruction of the road all the way from Wenchi to Wa. The road is going to be reconstructed.  It will be a new road, very well constructed so that it can adjust to the traffic that it’s carrying as an international route to the landlocked countries in Burkina Faso and Mali,” the President said.

He added that, “At the same time, today represents a sod cutting for the reconstructionof the Fufulso-Sawla Road. As you can see, the Sawla-Fufulso Road was completed when I was president. Unfortunately, due to lack of maintenance, many parts of the road have deteriorated. And so, the same contractor who’s working on the Wenchi-Wa Road has also been asked to work on the Fufulso-Sawla Road.

President Mahama described the project as strategic.

“We’re here to open a new corridor of progress,to reconnect regions, markets, and families, to renew the promise of inclusive development, and to affirm that every part of Ghana deserves modern infrastructure, dignity, and opportunity.

The Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza commended President Mahama for his commitment to the project.

“Your Excellency, from Wenchi to Wa will be around 200 kilometers of road. Your Excellency, no government has ever created this level of ambition. Yes, indeed, a section of this road was awarded before you came, but the contractor never turned up to site because the financing was never secured. You are the one who came and you did not cancel that contract. You included it in the big push. That is what we are doing from Wenchi to Wa today,” he said.

The Takoradi-Cape Coast Road is part of a larger highway that connects the capital city, Accra, to Takoradi. This road is vital because it carries over 90% of goods and passengers traveling to the Western Region of Ghana, including popular tourist spots like Cape Coast and Elmina. Currently, this road is too crowded and often leads to accidents, making travel slow and expensive.

The government sees the construction of a new, wider road as a key project aimed at improving transportation safety, efficiency, and boosting local economies. Roads Minister Kwame Governs Agbodza highlighted the importance of using local companies for the road construction, assuring everyone that the contractors involved have received proper training.

The new road will stretch about 73.6 kilometers from Cape Coast to Takoradi and will be built in sections to speed up the process. It will include three interchanges, four bridges, and facilities for pedestrians.

President Mahama emphasized the need for weight limits on trucks to prevent damage to the roads, noting that some trucks are overloaded by as much as 70 tonnes beyond the legal limit. He assured the public that discussions will take place regarding these new regulations in the upcoming budget announcement.

As the construction begins, the President promised that there would be no delays, with plans to complete the work within 24 months.
