Addressing the public during his Eastern Region tour, President Mahama referenced findings from an official Auditor-General’s report, which exposed numerous irregularities and suspected overpayments in the awarding of road contracts under the previous government.

“Any contractor found to have benefited from double payments during the Akufo-Addo era will face legal prosecution. These irregularities cannot be swept under the carpet,” President Mahama stated firmly.

He noted that contractors who have been cleared by the audit will be invited back to site to complete abandoned or stalled road and infrastructure projects.

President Mahama assured Ghanaians of his commitment to reviving all stalled infrastructure projects, especially those affecting roads, schools, health facilities, and the agricultural sector.

“We are coming back to fix what has been abandoned. Our mission is clear — to deliver development that works for every Ghanaian, particularly those in deprived and farming communities,” he said.

In line with his “Big Push” infrastructure agenda, President Mahama also announced plans to construct a modern bridge over the Afram River, a project he says will significantly enhance transportation and economic activity in the region.

The bridge is expected to ease the movement of goods and people, especially farmers, whose produce often gets delayed due to poor transport links across the Afram Plains.

“The Afram River bridge is not just a structure. It is a symbol of renewed hope for the people whose livelihoods depend on access to markets, education, and healthcare,” he explained.
