SEKONDI: Over 200 Sex Workers’ Rendered Homeless

In the early hours of Tuesday, September 9, 2025, a fire destroyed more than 70 wooden buildings that are home to sex workers in a well-known area within STMA, European town in Sekondi.

According to some local residents, the fire may have started when one of the workers accidentally left a candle burning in her room while she fell asleep.

The fire has left over 200 sex workers without shelter.

Fortunately, with the assistance of local residents and NADMO officials, firefighters managed to put out the blaze around 8:19 AM GMT.

It’s worth noting that today marks the three-year anniversary of a similar fire in the same area. At that time, the local government promised to address the situation, but little progress has been made since then.
