Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to implementing the recommendations from the National Education Forum, assuring stakeholders that this process will be far from routine. During the forum’s closing ceremony, she highlighted the vital importance of foundational learning and stressed that a robust focus on basic education is key to Ghana’s progress.

“I wish to assure you that your recommendations will not gather dust on the shelf,” she declared. “Your report will serve as the cornerstone upon which our educational policies are built and executed to establish an inclusive, equitable, and transformative education system for the benefit of all Ghanaians.”

The ceremony brought together more than 30 stakeholder groups who collectively validated the committee’s recommendations.

Education Minister Haruna Iddris

At the event, Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu assured tertiary institutions that the government remains committed to preserving their autonomy. He highlighted that universities will continue to enjoy the freedom to self-govern, free from governmental interference, thereby promoting academic independence and excellence.

Additionally, the Minister announced that the National Research Fund will be operational this year, providing crucial support to lecturers for their research initiatives.

Furthermore, the committee responsible for the National Education Forum is expected to deliver a comprehensive report and recommendations to the President, which will guide subsequent directives and implementation.
