Ranking Member on Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, Rev John Ntim Fordjour, has criticised Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa over the ongoing debate about Ghana’s presidential aircraft.
In a post on Monday, August 18, Rev Fordjour accused the Minister and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) of engaging in “petty politics” on a matter of national security. He urged Ablakwa to resign, tender an apology to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and support the government’s efforts to acquire a new presidential jet.
“Mr Principle, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Ghana is expecting your resignation. NDC must apologise to Ghanaians and Prez Akufo-Addo for doing petty politics with presidential travels,” Rev Fordjour stated.

According to him, the safety and reliability of the presidential aircraft are too important to be trivialised. He insisted that the government must act decisively by presenting a proposal for the purchase of a new jet to ensure the President’s security and dignity on international assignments.
“Government must be bold to submit a proposal for the acquisition of a new Presidential Jet for the President’s safety,” he added.
His remarks come amid renewed public debate over the state of Ghana’s current presidential jet, with concerns raised about its dependability. Rev Fordjour emphasised that national interest should take precedence over political point-scoring, stressing that protecting the Head of State is a matter of urgency.
