The Ghanaian government has raised the producer price of cocoa to $5,040 per tonne for the 2025/2026 season, a 62.58% increase from $3,100, effective August 7, 2025. Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson announced the decision on X after a Producer Price Review Committee meeting, aligning with President Mahama’s pledge to pay farmers 70% of the Free-On-Board (FOB) value of $7,200 per tonne, as reported by Graphic Online.
Dr. Forson noted that the previous administration paid $3,100 per tonne in 2024/25, only 63.9% of the $4,850 FOB value. The new price, based on past contracts and 2025/26 forecasts, translates to GH¢51,660 per tonne or GH¢3,228.75 per 64kg bag at an exchange rate of GH¢10.25, per Bank of Ghana. This boost aims to support cocoa farmers’ livelihoods.
