A fresh poll by research firm Global InfoAnalytics projects a likely victory for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Bernard Baidoo, in the upcoming Akwatia by-election slated for Tuesday, September 2, 2025.
The survey, conducted between August 27 and 28 with a representative sample of 2,050 registered voters, places Baidoo ahead with 53% support. His closest contender, Solomon K. Asumadu of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), secured 47%.
The by-election was triggered by the unfortunate passing of NPP MP Ernest Kumi on July 7, leaving the Akwatia parliamentary seat vacant. The constituency, long regarded as a swing seat, is now shaping up as a decisive battleground and an early indicator of voter sentiment heading into the 2028 general elections.
Beyond party loyalty, the survey highlights that unemployment, economic difficulties, and limited access to social amenities are the key issues influencing voter decisions in Akwatia.
Global InfoAnalytics, however, cautioned that the role of undecided voters remains significant. Their final choices could either cement Baidoo’s lead or narrow the margin in favor of Asumadu as election day approaches.
