Disbar transport unions to enable free flow of goods from hinterlands – Prof. Boso

Prof. Nathaniel Boso, Director at the Centre for Applied Research and Innovation in Supply Chain – Africa (CARISCA), has called for disbanding Ghana’s transport unions to overhaul the transportation system and boost supply chain efficiency. Speaking at CARISCA’s Supply Chain Business Forum on August 4, 2025, themed “Fueling Africa’s Growth,” Boso criticized unions like the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) for causing price hikes and delays, particularly in agriculture, per Graphic Online.

Boso advocated for private transport operators and online booking systems to streamline goods delivery, aligning with Ghana’s 24-hour industrial policy. “We need to reset everything,” he said, urging bold policies to dismantle cartels and empower a public bus system. The Ghana transport reform could transform logistics and economic growth.
