2026 FIFA WCQ: Otto Addo rues “missed opportunity” after Chad draw

Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has described Ghana’s 1-1 draw with Chad in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Thursday, September 4, as a “missed opportunity.”

Ghana looked set for victory after Jordan Ayew tapped in the opener in the 17th minute. However, the Black Stars were denied maximum points when Celestine Ecua’s deflected strike found the net in the 88th minute, leaving Ghana frustrated.

A win would have given Ghana a six-point cushion over Mali, their next opponent in a crucial clash scheduled for Monday, September 8 at 19:00 GMT in Accra.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Otto Addo expressed disappointment, pointing to the astro turf in N’Djamena as a key factor in the team’s underwhelming performance.

“We should have closed the game earlier. This was a missed opportunity,” he admitted.
