Award-winning Nigerian actor and producer Jim Iyke has broken his silence on the stir caused by his recent Instagram birthday post to fellow actor Kate Henshaw, making it clear that the post was not about any sexual relationship but rather an appreciation of deep friendship and loyalty that has stood the test of time.
On July 22, 2025, Jim Iyke set social media buzzing with a bold birthday tribute to Kate Henshaw, stating:
“Fk you, on behalf of my 23-year-old self for treating me like your baby brother when you knew all that time I wanted to hit that. Fk you, coz when you finally lemme hit it, I was at the apex of my singular wildness and restlessness…”
The post quickly became the subject of speculation among fans and bloggers, with many assuming the pair had a past intimate relationship. However, in a candid interview on 3FM Drive with Trigmatic on Thursday, July 24, 2025, Jim Iyke clarified that the post had nothing to do with any sexual feelings for Kate Henshaw and that people had completely misunderstood the essence of his message.
“I rarely say something I don’t mean. I’ve known Kate for over two decades. We’ve grown together, not just as colleagues in Nollywood, but as genuine friends, like brother and sister,” Jim Iyke explained. “There are very few people in the world I can truly express myself around without fear of judgment, and Kate is one of those rare people.”
Jim Iyke described his words as “word play,” explaining that it came from a comfort zone shared between two close friends who have seen each other through life’s thick and thin.
“What happened was a word play that was told in a comfort zone that two people can resonate with. These are words that resonate clearly in your head but never find expression. You carry them forever, and one day you say, f**k it, let the world have a glimpse of how you feel about certain people.”
“There’s Absolutely Nothing Sexual About It”
Jim emphasized that people have misunderstood the spirit of his message, reiterating that there was no romantic or sexual attachment to his words. Instead, it was a celebration of Kate Henshaw’s role in his life as someone who has always been there for him, providing advice, support, and a safe space to be himself.
“There’s absolutely nothing sexual about it. It doesn’t even suggest someone I’m dating. This is my boy, clean and simple. This is somebody without judgment or reservation who I can go to and say, ‘This is what I am going through,’ and they will give me the most honest advice that comes from only one place God created—the female intuition.”
Jim Iyke noted that Kate Henshaw is one of the few people in his life who listens to him deeply without judging him, which is why he used her birthday as an opportunity to express gratitude and to let the world know how much he appreciates her.
“It was a perspective, so whatever you garnered from that, again I say, f**k it,” Jim concluded.
